ARTIST
SERIES
Held in the 110-year old barn, the Artist Series provides a unique and intimate venue surrounded by natural beauty. You’ve never experienced performances like this.
The barn has featured a full spectrum of singer/songwriters, storytellers, poets, theater companies, film, dance, and orchestra principals, just to name a few. Artists and audiences alike seem to be transformed by these performances in the church-like barn.
One-half of the Artist Series ticket proceeds go to the artists and the other half is distributed through Everwood's Aspiring Artists Fund. Through the Fund, arts-focused teachers in the six counties surrounding Everwood (Dunn, St. Croix, Polk, Barron, Pierce and Pepin) apply each spring for innovative projects that need financial support. We receive dozens of applications each year that are reviewed by our Board of Directors. At each Artist Series performance, we recognize one or more teachers. The grants have ranged from $250.00 to $2,000.00. Everwood has donated over $60,000 to local school programs.

Courtney Hartman, a Wisconsin-based, Colorado-born guitarist, singer, writer and producer, has spent 15 years deftly knitting together music communities across the bluegrass, folk and indie scenes. She turned early acclaim (including a 2014 GRAMMY nomination for her work with folk quintet Della Mae) into true partnerships, writing and recording with an ever-growing family of fellow artists. Her first two albums, Ready Reckoner and Glade, featured collaborations with Gregory Alan Isakov, Anaïs Mitchell, Bill Frisell and Sam Amidon. Her new album, With You, was co-written with other mothers in the music industry and invites listeners inside a circle of care and generosity. During a writing retreat at Everwood Farmstead, Hartman felt a nudge to set aside the songs she was finishing and instead write through the journey of becoming a mother. The summer after her daughter was born, as Hartman navigated the newness of motherhood, she began making a list of mothers who had continued a life of creative work amidst caregiving. Her list spilled over the page and she began reaching out, inviting these women into the songs she had begun at Everwood. In its essence, With You is about the transformative power of care — the choice to stay beside each other even in seasons when the walking is labored and slow. Sean Carey and Ben Lester will join Courtney at this performance.

Maygen & The Birdwatcher weave a rich tapestry of Americana, blending folk and country with an eclectic twist. Lead singer-songwriters Maygen Lacey and Noah Neumann began as a duo and quickly realized their vision needed more so they added a collective of talented musicians. Their second record, The Americana Dream, is a sonic travelogue that charts where they have been and where their collective gaze is headed. And it represents a full embrace of the literal definition of Americana, as well as a deep love for the ground we walk on and the future of the planet itself.

S. CAREY is the moniker of Eau Claire, Wisconsin-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer Sean Carey, commonly recognized as the drummer, backing vocalist, and second longest serving member of Bon Iver. Over the past decade and a half, Carey has fostered his flourishing solo career via themes of nature and sustainability, songwriting built from jazz beginnings, and heartfelt, emotive lyricism. His latest release, Watercress, adds to a discography of four full-length releases, two EPs, and countless collaborations, including Unbound with Bizhiki and Shadowlands with John Raymond. Carey and his adept band of longtime friends and collaborators celebrate their 15th year of touring everywhere from international headline shows to intimate living room performances to performing arts center stages.

Pert Near has had the privilege of helping to establish and continuing to curate and host the Blue Ox Music Festival each June in Eau Claire, WI.

“I can’t fully express how grateful I am that The Everwood Foundation awarded Menomonie High School the Aspiring Artist grant for the purchase of an adaptive potter’s wheel. Even though the specific student that the grant was written for doesn’t have class until the spring, we have already purchased the wheel and it is currently being used by students every day! In two different ceramics classes, there are five students who have been able to rotate using this wheel. Without this incredible tool, these students would not have been able to experience clay in this way. The confidence and pride on their faces thus far has made all of our efforts worth it. If you don’t mind, I will continue to send you updates on the work being produced by these amazing students.
Also, I would like to thank you for inviting my wife and me to the unique performance of Electra! We have never experienced a performance in such a manner. You have such a creative space to provide for artists.

Bill Underwood and Christopher Everett are the most talented, gracious hosts an artist could hope to have in their corner, their farm an impeccable parcel of groovy, inspired living in rural Wisconsin. AND...my film screened before a diverse, intelligent audience in a BARN—one of the coolest performing-arts spaces I have ever seen (and now screening venue for film) Actress Sara Marsh joined us for the best discussion we have had after any of our dozens of screenings and talkbacks. I don't mean to gush but I am a renewed man after this weekend. The Everwood Farmstead Foundation is supporting artists and bringing people from all walks of life together in the middle of rural Wisconsin by exposing them to great, varied works of art.
