SPECIAL
EVENTS
On occasion, we're asked to host special events for artists or arts organizations. It may be a result from an artist on retreat. While these events are not part of the regular Artist Series, they support our mission and build community in unique ways.

COMMUNITY
SING-ALONG
June 17, 2023 from 6:00–7:30PM
Join master voice coach Barbara McAfee for a community singalong in the barn. Singing in the oral tradition — just for the joy of it! All ages and all abilities are welcome. No music to read. No performance. Songs, rounds, and chants from around the world — from the sublime to the ridiculous. Barbara has graciously agreed that ALL proceeds from the Community Singalong will fund stipends for artists who participate in Everwood's Artist Retreat.
“Community singing is a powerful way to reconnect us to our courage, joy, and humanity. It’s also the quickest way I’ve ever found to create a we out of a group of me’s.”
- Barbara McAfee
All of Barbara’s work is rooted in voice. As a master voice coach, she helps people find their voice, whatever that means to them. She is author of Full Voice: The Art and Practice of Vocal Presence and is now training people to do her work. As a singer/songwriter, she has produced eight CD’s. She is a third-generation song leader and loves getting people singing together without the need for written music or perfection. A native Minnesotan, she lives in St Croix Falls, Wisconsin.
“THE HOUSE AT ECHOS END”
SELECTED SONGS
Summer 2020
While at Everwood this summer, Cat Brindisi-Darrow and David Darrow graciously agreed to perform songs from their audio play collaboration with Derek Prestly. We invited six neighbors to safely witness the event. It was so good to hear music in the barn again! We also recognized our first 2020 Aspiring Artists Fund recipient, Olivia Willett, the Choir Director at Osceola Middle School. We hope you'll enjoy feeling the breeze in the barn again as you watch.

“MISS JULIE”
A READING
Summer 2020
A tense and unflinching negotiation plays out over the course of a Midsummer evening in the kitchen of a country manor house in Sweden. Highborn Julie and her father's servant drink, dance, and destroy each other before the magic spell of the festival evening breaks. In a gripping new adaptation of Strindberg's classic, MISS JULIE is a transgressive examination of class, gender, and systems of oppression on the brink of collapse. MISS JULIE was developed in part at Everwood's 2019 Artist Retreat.
Written and directed by Grant Sorenson, Artistic director of Arrow Theater.
Meghan Kreidler as Julie
Michael Weiser as Jan

“FOUR DAYS AWAY” ALBUM RELEASE
FEATURING JOHN MARK NELSON
September, 2017
In late May, 2017, John Mark Nelson brought a few microphones and guitars to Everwood Farmstead for an artist retreat. Starting totally from scratch, he challenged himself to write and record an album. Each song was recorded using just two microphones, a few instruments and a Princeton amp. After four beautiful summer days and nights in the barn, his new album Four Days Away came to life.
“ALL IS CALM: THE CHRISTMAS TRUCE OF 1914”
PRESENTED BY THEATER LATTE DA
December 2015 + 2016
The Western Front, Christmas, 1914. Out of the violence a silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht.” Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music, peace. A remarkable true story, told in the words and songs of the men who lived it.
