Artist Workshops

Interested in engaging with and learning from other artists in a more intimate setting?

Our Artist Workshops are designed to inform and inspire both aspiring and professional artists with focused, hands-on practice in the beautiful 100 year-old barn. These small groups become supportive communities that share conversation and progress long after the workshop is done. Prices and seating availability will be based on the individual workshops. Invites will be clear about the skill level needed for each event.

Stained Glass Mosaics for Beginners Workshop with Kristin Dieng

June 15, 2019

This is an introductory course for those new to stained glass mosaics. Participants will learn the three basic elements of mosaic art: cutting, gluing and grouting. And each participant will complete an 8"x 10" stained glass window hanging (images will be provided or participants can design their own image). Because Kristin enjoys teaching in a relaxed, fun, no-pressure style that allows participants to explore and develop their own creativity and style, class size will be limited to 15.

Kristin is a fine mosaic artist, specializing in stained glass-on-glass artwork. Her creative motivation comes from her desire to respond positively to a chronic illness. She creates stained glass mosaics, which highlight the interaction between glass and light, and the ways in which they dance together when illuminated. She specializes in geometric patterns and natural designs, including landscapes, trees and flowers.

The price for the workshop includes lunch, beverages and everything you'll need to make your own custom window hanging.

Participants should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes. In addition, wear closed-toe shoes because we will be cutting glass.

The Birds and the Bees AND the Chickens - Animal Illustration Workshop with Sarah Nelson

August 03, 2019

Sarah Nelson's workshop is an introduction to pen and marker animal illustration techniques. The Animal Illustration workshop, which is appropriate for ages 12 and older, is an excellent opportunity for all skill levels to enjoy nature, community and a love for drawing. Each participant will learn to mix and blend markers to improve shading, and establish a solid understanding of fine art pens with the purpose of creating texture and vibrancy found in animals.  Sarah will focus on three animals you can't miss at Everwood - birds, bees and chickens! All will conclude the workshop having created a finished illustration.

Primarily working with pen and markers, Sarah Nelson's work concentrates on environmental concerns, ranging from endangered species, pollinators, symbiotic relationships between species, to the interconnectivity of ecosystems. She recently completed a fully illustrated interior and exterior Green Line light rail wrap for Metro Transit's 2019 Earth Week Celebration.

Class size will be limited to 15 participants. The price for the workshop includes all supplies, lunch and beverages. Participants should bring comfortable clothes and sensible shoes based on the weather.

Zero Waste Indigo Workshop with Annabella Sardelis

September 14, 2019

Reduce, re-use and re-imagine all in one workshop! In this Zero Waste Indigo Workshop, you will learn how to make a natural indigo vat + a handful of traditional and contemporary shibori techniques. Here's an opportunity to bring in white or neutral colored clothing that is stained and as a result no longer worn. Instead of destined for the landfill, it's an opportunity to dye them with indigo, so they are back in action and better than ever! This workshop will be taught outside if the weather cooperates and inside the barn if not.

Annabella Sardelis is the Founder of INDIGO & SNOW, a textile studio dedicated to sustainable design in the Casket Arts Building in Minneapolis. She specializes in hand-dyed and painted accessories, apparel and decor. And she teaches natural indigo workshops with a focus on zero waste practices. She exhibits nationally and her work has been featured by the New York Times, ELLE, and Apartment Therapy, among others.
